SPARK Online Academy Vision 2025

SPARK Online Academy empowers learners through connected, rigorous, and relevant experiences that combine caring, skilled educators with the power of technology to connect with the local and global community.

The following information identifies four categories within our vision

Agency

Learners are given the ability to act and make decisions.

Our learners will have choice in their learning environments and approaches based on needs, preferences, and specific learning activities.
Our students engage in reflective practices as a part of a feedback and growth cycle to inform actions, decision making, reviewing and processing new knowledge, and setting new or revised goals.
Learning pathways toward standards based learning outcomes provide students choice in access, activity, and modality to instruction, practice in building skill proficiency.
Learners choose when and how to demonstrate mastery of skills in actionable feedback cycles.
Our students will collect, reflect, and present learning through a variety of authentic evidence goals through authentic evidence.
Co-created learning goals are developed and supported through cycles of feedback and action in an advisory model.
We will create an intellectually and psychologically safe environment to question and thing that are unknown to each person.

Relevance

Learning is rooted in the context of the application of knowledge and authentic experiences.

Students regularly share learning with others in multi-modality presentations.
Measures of success will reflect the essential skills needed for success in today's world and beyond.
Grading and reporting reflects proficiency growth and progress toward Colorado Academic Standards and D11 Graduate Profile competencies.
Learning takes place in a culture prioritizing growth through calculated risks, testing, and experimenting ideas in pursuit of learning in a safe and supportive environment.
Learners engage in storytelling of personal experiences and listening to the stories of others' personal experiences across differences.
Each learner engages in divergent and convergent thinking processes through modeling and application.
We will engage in regular empathy-building activities to ensure equitable voice and representation in our work.
Students will have regular opportunities to learn through experiences and context that build understanding of different points of view.

Access

Learners have the flexibility and resources to learn in ways that meet his or her unique needs and goals.

A wide range of measurements that inform planning, delivery methods, and personalized pathways based on individual needs of the whole child will be utilized.
Experiences throughout our school will be culturally responsive and inclusive of a diverse student population to meet the needs of all learners.
Educators will regularly model the process of questioning as a problem solving strategy in developing questioning skills for learners.
We will implement fully inclusive models of teaching and learning throughout our organization.
We will support the physical, social, emotional, and mental health needs of our students, staff members, and families where appropriate.
Learners will facilitate portfolio sharing conferences with parent/guardians and teachers on a quarterly basis.
Anytime, anywhere access to resources will enable an experience tailored to learner need, preference, and interest.
Learners and educators systematically participate in feedback and goal setting processes toward learning growth and mastery.
Teachers provide helpful and actionable feedback on a weekly basis with specific steps students need to take to progress and grow in their learning goals.
Flexible scheduling will ensure that spaces are accessible throughout and beyond the traditional school day.
Systems of helpful and positive feedback will develop effective questioning skills in learners.

Connection

Learners have access to peers, educators, and local and global community partners.

We will participate in community events promoting opportunities to students, families, businesses, and high-quality educators.
Learners recognize and celebrate growth in others.
We will actively seek out and utilize the values, wisdom, and expertise of our diverse families and community members to raise awareness, empower voice, and promote solutions to relevant issues.
Our educators will further develop a deep knowledge of their learners through intentional relationship building.
Learners engage in storytelling of personal experiences and listing to the stories of others' personal experiences across differences.
We will develop and nurture a culture of creativity and wonder daily by encouraging and supporting students to learn about the world through questioning.
We will implement feedback structures that enables meaningful two-way communication with stakeholders.
